Doncic, the Mavs avoided a sweep with a 119-109 win against the Warriors

DALLAS (AP) – Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks had to wait for a rainy delay in the middle of the game and put up some tense time in the end.

Once they did, he avoided the sweep and was still alive in the Western Conference finals.

Doncic had 30 points and 14 rebounds, and the Mavericks beat Golden State 119-109 in Game 4 Tuesday night, when there was a 16-minute rain delay early in the second half and the Warriors reduced the deficit to 29 points. up to one digit late.

“You just have to finish the game. Winning is winning,” said Doncic, who is 10-of-26 shooting with just three made 3s but gets a lot of help from supporting players.

This is the 10th double in 14 games this postseason for Doncic, who also has nine assists. While he had 40 points in Game 3, Reggie Bullock shot 0 to 10 with seven misses from a 3-point range.

Dorian Finney-Smith had 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting and Bullock added 18 points on 6-of-10-all 3-pointers. Jalen Brunson had 15 points and Maxi Kleber, who took 2-of-14 (all 3s) in the first three games, made two 3s before the break and 5-of-6 took overall for 13 points.

“Everyone in the locker room feels more like playing basketball,” Finney-Smith said. “We just want to win by any means.… It felt like desperation in the first half.”

The defeat surpassed the Warriors ’record of winning nine games in the Western Conference finals, although they could still control the series back in California for Game 5 on Thursday night.

“It’s almost like winning the ego (for Dallas). You come out and you really don’t lose. So that confidence starts earlier,” Stephen Curry said. “And we really didn’t do anything to slow it down, then when the avalanche started. You gave a hat to them.”

Curry had 20 points and returned to the game with 3:22 left – his first appearance in the fourth quarter – after the Warriors reduced their 29 -point deficit to 110-102. But he didn’t get close even after Curry and the other starters returned to the floor.

“We just made the decision to see if we could do a miracle, but it wasn’t expected,” coach Steve Kerr said. “Dallas is amazing tonight. They deserve to win. This is a conference final. Of course that’s how it is.”

Doncic then drove for a dunk and Bullock had a sixth 3-pointer, among 20 long-range players for the Mavericks, who now have 11 games this postseason with at least 15 3s.

“I still believe that we can win. The sweep is not swept, if we lose we lose,” Doncic said. “I have to play game after game.”

No NBA team came back from a 3-0 deficit to win the series. Only three of the 146 teams that fell into the deep hole were even able to force a seventh game.

The Mavericks have swept the best-of-seven just once in 34 of those series. It was against Oklahoma City in the first round of the 2012 playoffs, after Dallas won its only NBA title the previous season.

Rain leaking through the roof of the American Airlines Center caused a delay after half an hour. There was heavy rain outside, and at least two leaks. One is pouring water near the Golden State bench, and at the other end the court water is seen down in the stands.

This is the second suspension this season at the 21 -year -old building. The start of the March 21 game against Minnesota was delayed by 15 minutes due to water dripping near the visitors ’bench.

Dallas went on to stay with a 25-6 run over an almost 7-minute span in the second quarter when the Warriors missed nine of 10 shots and had two turnovers.

Golden State went up 31-29 after a jumper by Moses Moody, then only one made the basket in the next seven minutes. A 3-pointer by Davis Bertans puts the Mavericks in the lead for good.

The Mavericks had a 62-47 draw after Doncic drove in for a hard layup, responding to Curry’s basket at the other end.

HAPPY TIME

The moment of silence before the tipoff came hours after an 18-year-old gunman opened fire at a Texas elementary school about 375 miles away in Uvalde, Texas, which is west of San Antonio in the south of the state. The moment also learned of a teacher coach from Palestine, Texas, who was killed when his mobile was hit by the wrong driver while driving more than 100 miles from Game 3 on Sunday. Two students with her were injured.

KARI 100. 20

Curry has 100 career 20-point playoff games. He was only the 16th player to complete it. Everything else up front is in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, still an active player, or retired and not yet eligible for Hall induction – such as Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki.

PORTER OUT

The Warriors without Otto Porter Jr., who averaged 10.5 points at 82% took the first two games before leaving Game 3 due to a sore left leg. He was not wearing a shirt Tuesday.

SHORT STOP

Draymond Green went to a free throw line midway through the third quarter and first tried to come to a full stop at the back of the wide rim. Once Doncic and Green stood in line together laughing about it, the ball was finally knocked down. Green then missed a second try as well, and was restored by Doncic.
