
Mike Woodson continues to put Indiana on the national stage, and on Thursday, he added the 2023 Empire Classic to Indiana’s non-conference schedule. In its current format, Indiana will play two games in the event.
Jon Rothstein first reported that Indiana, UConn, Texas and Louisville will compete in the event during the 2023-2024 season, but a specific date has not been announced. The 2022 event takes place on November 21 and 22. at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY between Syracuse, Saint John, Temple and Richmond.
The 2021 Empire Classic was held in Las Vegas and featured two of the top teams in the country while No. 1 Gonzaga beat No. 2 UCLA 83-63. Indiana last competed in this event in 2013 when it became known as the 2K Classic.

With connections as a former New York Knicks head coach, Woodson noted during his first season in Indiana that he would be open to bringing the Hoosiers to New York for games or non-conference tournaments.
Woodson has been quite successful in adding non-conference marquee opponents to the Indiana schedule. During the 2022-2023 season, Indiana will play against Arizona in Las Vegas on Dec. 10 before reaching the road to play the Kansas Jayhawks defending champions on Dec. 17. Woodson also recently commented on Indiana’s potential renewed rivalry with Kentucky.
