SANTEE, Calif. – San Diego Christian College Athletic Director Brian Schroeder has announced that Josh Milner, has been hired as a successor to become the seventh head coach of the Hawks baseball program.

“We are excited that Josh is joining the San Diego Christian College family,” Schroeder said. “She brings an impressive resume ’that includes extensive collegiate coaching experience, but most importantly a life -changing history through ministry. As an outgoing manager, I wanted to make sure that the team I had invested in personally and cared deeply about, was given not only a great baseball coach but a man of God. We’ve found it in Josh Milner. A Christ -centered approach will help prepare student athletes to excel on the field, in the classroom, and what they will do later in life.”

Most recently, Milner served five seasons as assistant head coach for Arizona Christian University Firestorm. Baseball responsibilities at ACU include being a bench coach, recruiting, and working with catchers. Off the field, Milner is committed to the spiritual development and mental well -being of Firestorm coaches and players. He will be the leader of the upcoming Hawks team that has many pitchers and position players.

Milner has also worked full-time with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) for the past three years in the Phoenix area. She will continue this ministry, transitioning to part-time with an organization in San Diego to serve high schools around SDCC. Milner believes that using the call as a coach is a positive influence on athletes. He enjoyed spreading the Bible, starting to study the Bible with his coaches, and finally seeing his life changed by Christ.

Milner said of the new appointment, “First of all, I have to thank my wife Melissa for the sacrifice and encouragement she gave. Also, thank you for my children. I am proud of her and thankful that she understands the importance of coaching. It is extremely humble and a great privilege to step into this position at San Diego Christian. My heart goes out to the university, the sports department, and most importantly the athletes God has called to train. You learned a few things from being an assistant coach over 20 seasons.” He continued, “My desire is of course to lead a program that, most importantly, honors and honors our Lord Jesus while also competing pitch-by-pitch every time we step on the diamond. Through it all, I will continue to pray that my life is changed by Jesus Christ so that it can make an impact for generations to come. I am thankful for the coaches who have made me who I am, my father, Coach Kelly Phipps, Coach Grant, Coach Bass, and every coach and player I have ever been involved with. The friendship, love, and lessons learned from you will not be lost.”

Milner earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education with a minor in English from Wayland Baptist University and has been working on a Master’s in Kinesiology at the University of Texas in the Permian Basin. Prior to WBU, she attended Glendale Community College.

Coach Milner and his wife Melissa are approaching their 18th birthday. They have 2 children, daughter Ryann, 15, and son Travis, 13. Ryann is a basketball player who enjoys finishing and hanging out at sporting events. Travis, who is a good friend to many footballers, loves whatever is on the outside. In addition to coaching, Milner enjoys playing games and hanging out with his friends. She enjoys camping with her family and exploring the outdoors when she has free time. Don’t be surprised if you find Coach Milner on a disc golf course, too.
